Hallelujah - Jason Castro
Jason Castro must have known he would invoke and honor singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley when he decided to perform Hallelujah on American Idol. As I've stated elsewhere, I don't watch television, but occasionally a link to something online will catch my attention. This was one of those happy occasions. Jason Castro's rendition of this song is one of the beautiful things in the world.
There are several versions of Jason Castro singing this song on the internet. I tried to find the best one to present here. One thing is certain: the live performance recordings are much better than the studio versions. After his appearances on American Idol, Jeff Buckley's recording went number one - and it was recorded in 1994. Castro has been performing across the country since his appearance on the show.
This video is not an entry in our Online Open Mic, but an example of an extraordinary spiritual performance.
